What is a blog?

A blog is actually more like a simplified version of website. Think about a “normal website” where there are homepage (the first page of a site) and the other subpages connected together with links (known as hyperlink). Now if we look at a blog, it is a simpler version of website. generally speaking, blogs dont offer as much features as a website normally does. what a blog normally has is a mainpage of recent content entries, along with subpages that meant for past entries archive.

Well, in most cases, i guess we can say that a blog has a main page and nothing else. On the main page, there is a set of entries. Each entry is a little text blurb that may contain embedded links out to other sites, news stories, etc. When the author adds a new entry, it goes at the top, pushing all the older entries down. This blog also has a right sidebar that contains additional permanent links to other sites and stories. The author might update the sidebar weekly or monthly.

As i mentioned earlier, a blog can be a personal diary, a daily pulpit, acollaborative space, a political soapbox, a breaking-news outlet, or even just a collection of links. its a place to have your own private creations and it  is whatever you want it to be.

Currently there are lots of places offer free blogging software and free blog hosting. These offers are widely opened to the public and to register one, all you need is a unique user name (create one!) and a valid email address (get one free!).

Setting up your free blog at blogger.com

1. Go to http://www.blogger.com/, notice the arrow icon that states ‘Create your blog now’? click on it to get started.

2. Next, you will be required to key in your account basic information. emails (get one from gmail.com for blogger), password, screennames, the visual code verifications, and tick on the user agreements. Press next.

3. Here, you will need to input the basic information of your blog. what’s your favor blog title and blog address? note that your blog URL will be added into as a sub URL of blogspot.com… say that if you enter ‘howto101′ into the blog address, your exact blog address will be http://www.howto101.blogspot.com, got it?

In case you wish to have your own domain, you will need to register it and host it on a server. try Godaddy for domain registration and for hosting, i would suggest bluehost. there are a lot more good hosting services available…i recommend bluehost is just because it works fine with me and i like their customer supports a lot.

4. Choose your blog templates on the next screen after you clicked on continue

5. That’s all and you can start posting right away!
