In Google own description, Google AdSense is a program that can give you advertising revenue from each page on your website—with a minimal investment in time and no additional resources. AdSense delivers relevant text and image ads that are precisely targeted to your site and your site content. And when you add a Google search box to your site, AdSense delivers relevant text ads that are targeted to the Google search results pages generated by your visitors’ search request.

Simply said, Google Adsense is an advertising program that enable website owner to put ads on their website and earn commissions when the website visitors click on the ads served. This kind of ads program is normally known as CPC Ads as advertisers pay (or the publishers earn0Â whenever their ads are clicked. If you are not sure about what’s Google Adsense by now, i’m sure the images below looks familiar to you, those are samples of Google Adsense (in image form).

Google Adsense are served in three major categories, showed above are commonly known as Ad Unit. The rest of the other two are Ad Link and Adsense for search. Instead showing up links and description in Ad Unit, Ad Link are just plain links that lead the visitors to a bunch of Ads in Google (and you earn money when your visitors click on those ads); Adsense for search enables your visitors to search content within your website, the search results are returned along with Google ads and when your visitors click on those ads, you earn the ads revenue. well, that’s the brief on Google Adsense – pretty simple and direct.

Since Google Adsense is launched year 2000, it changed how the Internet world radically – more and more people get online trying to make some profit via Adsense, MILLIONS of scrapper sites and MFA (made-for-adsense) site popped up, and suddenly, advertisement block with the label ‘Ads by Goooogle’ are seen everywhere online.

Most of the time, Google adsenser are gaming with the stats numbers for continuously improvement in their ads performance. generally speaking, most efforts are spent in growing up the CTR, EPC (earning per clicks),  and Impressions (website traffics). The scope within these subjects are wide and it probably take pages to explain. what i will do here is to have a list of tricks and tips in order for you to start up. info given below are all based on my experience and it might works well, or bad with your websites. the main strategy in having a success with Google Adsense is always testing. test out what work for your website and what doesnt – thats the only answer for question on Google Adsense success.

Adsense Tips and Tricks

Tips for click thru rate (CTR)

Rule #1: Blend Adsense ads into your writings.

Sometimes, going against rule # helps, try to make the ads stand out from the rest sometimes work. (it really depends)

Visitors generally view website from top left to bottom left of the screen, try put ads into that zone.

Test with different colors in background, title, and borders. there was once change of background colors help me to increase my revenue for 50%.

Dont overpush your visitors with too much ads, it might work worse and push your visitors to close the window instead.

Placing image at the side of adsense helps … however this might be performed carefully as it might goes against adsense policy. make sure you dont go against the rules to avoid bans.

Generally a 336 x 286 Large square ads works the best for me in term of CTR ..this is however, very very particular experience and it might not work the same on your websites.

Tips for earning per clicks (EPC)

If you ever feel that your ads clicks are undervalued, it probably is! Make sure there is no junk advertisers advertising on your website. ban them, chase them away from your Google Adsense block list so that it wont appears again at your site. what you want is SERIOUS advertisers that are willing to pay for good money in the trade of your traffics – not some other stupid MFA junk sites. Google Adsense Preview Tool comes very handy when you need to identify those MFA sites.

Another issues with EPC is that is your site content in the high-demand sectors? get a niche content to start up in your website but not too niche until there’s no related advertisers on your websites. i once knew a webmaster that had hard time getting his ads showed as his website is all about poems. if you are starting up your adsense website now, you better do something that relates to expensive keyterms.

Tips for ads impressions

Increasing ads impressions sometimes simply means increasing the website traffics. while there are lots of ways to generate more traffics for your website, i will put on some basics here:

Rule #1: Do proper SEO, make sure you follow the basics and do not fool around with the title tags, anchor text, and remember to build up your site link popularity always.

Get active in forums that related to your industry, speak politely, give helps, and refer your own websites to the others whenever appropriates.

Utilise digg, deli.cio.us, reddit, technorati… engines to bring in more traffics.

Word of mouth strategy, have your friends and family to help up in promoting your websites.

Offline advertisement – radio ads, tv ads (if you got loads of cash), local classifies ..use them whenever its appropriate.

Write and submit articles to article directories.

Get your site to be more sticky, toolbar, softwares, newsletter, etc etc…make sure you can have as much return traffics as you can.

Conclusions

If you read on my how-to guide in making a decent income with google adsense, you probably already sense that Making money from Google Adsense is not that easy. yeah, its not that easy but hey, what good things come easy in life? the fact is that making money with Adsense is not easy but the chances of making good money is much higher when compare to real life busines. with Google Adsense, you can run all the necessary biz operations by just sitting infront of your desktops, traffics data and necessary info are just clicks away, and strategy testing are made easier online. doesnt it worth a try?

Now go make some money with Google Adsense!

Now that you’ve know what’s Google Adsense and you are ready to start, here’s your step-to-step guide (assuming you already have a website).

First, signup at Google Adsense. you can do so by clicking on the button below. you’ll need your mailing address and website ready… just fill up standard forms, nothing fancy.

Go to Adsense setup and setup your ads outlook – the border color, background color, as well as the text colors. assign  channels to your ads if you wish to monitor your ad performance individually.

Copy the adsense code (piece of java scipt)Â at the bottom of setup page and paste it to your webpage.

Load it to your server and preview it.

At first, you might be seeing no ads or Google community ads (donations/WWF/ blah blah blah…), this is because Google bot has yet to crawl your site content and has insufficient info about your site so they will just serve community ads that will not earn you any money. once your site is crawled (normall within minutes) and they realise what’s your site about, they will put on related ads.

Simple. in fact, there are tons of better guide with Google officials and its definately helps a lot for the starters. you can check them up at here: Adsense Basics.

Free web hosting guides: Learn how you can start hosting blogs and website at the cheapest price.
One step further than Adsense starter

Now that you already have an Adsense account and had the adsense code posted on your website, its time for you to start tracking on your ads performance. but before you can ever read the report from Google Adsense, you gotta understand what those figures mean to you.

Basically there are only five figures to look after in Google Adsense: Page Impressions, Clicks, Page CTR, Page eCPM, and Earnings. if these names sounds like greeks to you, you better learn them fast. these numbers mean nothing if you do not understand the maths and meaning behind them. A simple definition for these figures would be:

Page Impressions means the number of times your ads are showed to your visitors.

Clicks means the number of clicks your site visitors made on your ads

Page CTR or CTR, is a percentage number. to be easy, CTR = Clicks/Impression x 100%

Page eCPM means cost per 1000 impressions. speaking in maths, it means Earnings/Impressions x 1000.

Earnings, means the profit you made in your selected currency.

Understanding the numbers

Earnings vs Clicks*

We all knew clearly what are the purpose for us in putting up Adsense ads: To make money, the more the better. in other meaning, this means that we want to lift up the ‘Earnings’ in Adsense stats as much as possible, right. theoritically, we knew that we can earn more in Adsense by drawing more clicks on our ads. Hereby, we assume clicks increase = earning increase.

CTR vs Earnings*

Say that our website traffics are constant, everyday one of our webpage have 200 visitors and this gives 200 impressions to that particular page ads. if clicks increase, and the impressions are constant, we knew CTR will increase… hereby, we can assume CTR increase = earning increase.

Impressions vs Earnings*

What if our CTR is constant where we can have 5% of our visitors click on our ads constantly? As Clicks = Impressions x CTR, we knew that clicks increase when our impression increase (provided CTR is constant) and clicks increase will lead increment in earnings (the earlier assumption).

Joining the dots and usage of the figures

The picture is simple. seeing that earnings are corresponded positively CTR, Clicks, and Impressions, we can knew clearly that to grow our Google Adsense revenue, we need to grow either one of the number of clicks, or impressions. meaning, we can either bring more traffics to our website (increase impressions) or to have more visitors click on the ads (increase clicks). these stats would be very effective for benchmarking your improvments as well as to justify your biz strategy.

Say that if you are wondering which background color (say, blue or white) is better for your Adsense revenue, you can test them at your website. the ads performance can be tracked easily with the stats said above. does the blue background draws more clicks and yield higher CTR, or the white one? this, of course will then lead you to be wiser when making the decision.

Hidden numbers

Sad to say, Google stats do not reveal the full picture an adsenser would like to see. at least not for me. as a CPC ads program, the revenue generated from adsense relies fully on the value of each clicks. but how much it worths for one single click – we do not know.

The million-dollar-question in making good Adsense money is always “what’s the most expensive keyphrase”. if you ever want to earn good money from Adsense, you need to have expensive keyterms in your website to trigger the related ads to show up. as we mentioned earlier, google ads will find related ads to showed in your website. so if your website is like talking about some useless craps (malaysia broadband streamyx for example)…you probably wont get much of ads show coz there is NO RELATED ads in google inventory! no merchant is paying for streamyx related ads thus there wont be ads for these website. or, there are ads ..for example if you are going after softwares or ebooks on taking care of your dogs ..there are related merchants who want to buy the adspace on your website…there will be ads shown on the adsense bar but HELL, these merchats are paying so little to google …so in turn, you wont get much from google as well. for example the dog trainer is paying $0.50/click (i consider thats a lot for a private dog trainer) for google ads, neglect the smart pricing consideration and google will split half with u on the ad revenue, you will get $0.25/click. each day you are so damn lucky and you get 100 clicks per day ..so your per day click will be $0.25 x 100 = $25/day ..which in turns, $750/month, $9000/year. yeah yeah, its some money, but nothing impressive.

Now, consider you make a website to target some high paying keywords… imagine you can make $3/click……so that’s 6 times more than the click dollars generated by working out on the dog trainer ads…. 6 x $9000 = $54,000/year. now that’s what i call good money.

However, as i said earlier, Google NEVER reveal the price per click behind the scene. as we webmasters are relative small in the eye of Google, this is hidden in their secret valley and we have no chance peeping in. further more, as days go by, Google is implementing ’smart-pricing’ into their pricing system where the value of each click is calculated *smartly* via Google smart pricing algorithm.

To counter this situation, the best you can do to estimate the keyword price is view it from Overture Max bid function. at the time of writing, these are some of the high paying keyphrase…

mesothelioma treatment cost $21.00/click

selling structured settlements cost $20.00/click

arizona divorce attorneys $14.30/click

mesothelioma* cost $11.59/click

house loans $9.79/click

mesothelioma treatment options cost $9.19/click

auto insurance quotes florida cost $8.07/click

cash for structured settlements cost $8.00/click

mortgage $5.99/click

florida mortgage $5.09/click

vioxx lawyer $5.00/click

vioxx attorney $4.60/click

vioxx $2.10/click

So…i guess that’s all for the basics for starters. as your journey starts, i’m sure that you will meet up with loads of misleading info and myths in Google adsense, thus i believe the following sections will get you ready: Defining the myths in Google Adsense, and Google Adsense Tips and Tricks.

*Note: smart pricing and other variables are neglected in our example for the ease of explanation. google pricing algo in adsense is, of course, a lot more complicated that our example here.

Myths in Google Adsense

Anyway, it is 100% true that you can make money with Google Adsense. If you learn your skills throughly and had build up your sites with tons of traffics, chances are you might even make BIG money with Adsense. However, before you get started, you probably will got lost in the myths of Google Adsense.

Often when people are looking for learning resources in Google Adsense, they got distracted and misleaded to false or useless information. Cant deny that there are LOTS of misleading information and myths spinning around the Adsenser community. Some of the populars are like…

1. Google Adsense can only bring pennies

That’s BULLSHIT!

www.freeweblayouts.net
Qwned by two 20-year-olds, cash in around $100,000/month with Adsense check.

www.askthebuilder.com
By Tim Carter earns about $1,400/day.

www.weblogsinc.com
Earn $3,000/day with their long list of blogs.

www.seatguru.com
$10,000-$20,000/month.

www.podcastdirectory.comÂ
Earns $30,000-$40,000 annually.Â

And Markus Frind from Plenty of Fish…had just cash in a Google Adsense check with the value of CAD 901,733.84 not long ago. (view his blog post on this here.) So stop thinking that Google Adsense can only bring pennies, its more than you can ever imagine!

2. Scrapper sites or junk sites made the most in Adsense

This is simply rediculious, scrapper sites and junk sites only bring junk incomes (if there’s any). if you look at the big players, ALL of them came up with useful and creative contents that pull back return visitors/readers.

In the past, there are so-call experts that advise newbies to make dummy MFA site that serve nothing but Google Adsense. it gives no content at all and it only drags clicks… sounds like a good idea (since every click worth some money), wrong! by pushing every visitors to click on your ads, you are actually pushing Google advertisers to pay more money for junks traffics, which in long run, pushing the advertisers to lose money and ban your site from putting their ads. or even worse, they reported you to Adsense admin and ban your adsense account. at the end of the day, who lose? YOU.

Â

3. Adsense money is for the tech savvy

At the very basics, you will need some knowledge in webpage building and web hosting, but it doesnt take a tech savvy level to earn money from adsense. all you need is an interest to write and drag enough attention from the web surfers to visit your site, you can start earning money from Adsense clicks. with the apperance of blogging software and platform, it takes just a few clicks to start posting your writtings online and best of all, blogging is TOTALLY FREE. you dont even need to pay for the domain name.

4. You should team up with your friends and click each other ads

This is the MOST STUPID business strategy i can ever hear but yet, there are lots of friends around me are talking bout the same thing. first, when you click each other ads for too often, it generates a click trend (with your ip address) and this alerts Google on the fraud click issues which most probably will lead to termination of you and your partners account. secondly, clicking each other ads is like selling and buying a product with the same person – you sell to your partner, and you buy it back from him or her, and the process go round-and-round…. would you ever make money? NO. neither for the advertisers, so if i’m the advertisers, i will run as fast and as far as i can to avoid you.

Fraud clicks just cannot bring you anywhere buddy.

With the rapid growth of Internet population, more and more people are making a decent income on Internet. Nowadays, it’s no secret that some of the website owners earn 6 to 7 figures annually via their website revenue. Are you one of those who makes thousands per month online; or you are lurking from other? If you ever own a website or wish to earn extra income from the Internet, this How-to article is highly recommended.

1. Google Adsense

The reason we list Google Adsense first and isolate them out from other usual advertising program is because Google Adsense is so far world’s most popular make-money-online method. Because of Google Adsense, individual webmasters quit their day job and make a living via Internet; because of Google Adsense, bloggers like Darren Rowse makes 6 figures annually; and because of Google Adsense, small websites and blogs get to compete with giant cooperations with a better ROI efficiency.

Basically, here’s how Google Adsense works: You place a piece of java codes into your website, showings ads related to your website topics, if your website visitors got interested in those ads and click on them, you earn certain amount of commissions by refering your visitors to the advertisers. Such kind of advertising program is normally known as cost-per-click (CPC) advertising as money is made when the ad is clicked. Earnings per click range widely from a penny to a few dollars depends on the advertisement clicked.

2. Affiliate Program

In affiliate program, webmasters are more like sales who sell (or some call it pre-sell) a merchant’s product. By placing banner ads or affiliate links (a hyperlink that enables merchant to track who’s who) webmasters refer their visitors to the merchant commercial websites. If the visitors buy something, the webmaster got credited with commissions. The major advantage for being an affiliate is that in most cases, all you need to do is attract Internet traffics and refer them to the merchant – you don’t need to do customer support, inventory management, or website shopping cart.
Commission Junction, Click Bank, Amazon, Share A Sale are some of the well known affiliate program/networks.

3. Selling your own products

Selling your own product (digital product especially) makes good money online. Lots of one-man biz opeations are producing and selling digital products like ebooks, computer software online and make a good fortune. John Reese for example made a million bucks on the day he launched his Internet marketing course “Traffic Secrets”.

4. Other advertising program

Besides Google Adsense, there are more MSN Adcenter, YPN (by Yahoo!), Adbrite, Text Link Ads, Adgenta, CrispAds, SearchFeed, AVN, Target Point… etc. These advertising program might not be as famous as Google Adsense but they do offer lucrative ads revenue to many webmaster.

5. Paid to blog / Brand Sponsorship

We think number 5 could be the next money-printing-machine for bloggers. As more and more people are writting and reading blogs, we believe that big brands like Nike, Levi’s, Coke, Budwiser will (or already have) soon direct sponsor high traffic blogs. Also, bloggers can now be easily paid by writing blog post with the existence of payperpost.com.
